Garden Snail (Cornu Asperum)
Snails have an open circulatory system with a simple two chambered heart. It contains one atrium and one ventricle. The heart pumps the blood into the aorta and then into smaller arteries. From here it empties into the body cavity. This cavity is called the hemocoel. They have some important blood vessels, such as the pulmonary vein, leading from the lung to the heart, and the main artery or aorta, but the blood circulates freely between the organs. |
